The first 10 week session introduces music by incorporating creativity, rhythms, movement, listening, and instruments. Children experience chanting, reciting, singing, and exploration of many vocal sounds. Movement is also important - children learn rhythms through feeling the pulse in their body movements which teaches coordination and helps them "get into" the activities. Rhythm is incorporated with drums and other percussion instruments. They will also learn notes on the keyboard. We listen to music of a variety of styles and composers. We also listen to different instruments' sounds and shapes. From the beginning of the course, students are guided in the writing and reading of music and letters as well as their sounds. Our focus is on encouragement and enlightening experiences. In the second semester, the children begin using the keyboard to play simple songs and become comfortable with the piano.

This program encourages children to develop healthy eating habits. We incorporate a hands-on approach using nutritious foods such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy. The return on investment from cooking with kids is pretty compelling. Mini chefs are more likely to eat what they make and become more adventurous about trying new foods. Each week kids will go home with cooking instructions, recipes, information on leading healthier lifestyles, and tips that can be shared with the whole family.
