RIGHT REACTION SEMINARS

For Teens & Tweens Ages 11 - 15

These life skills will be helpful to your children no matter where they go or what they do.  You never know when your child will be in an emergency situation.   Help him/her be prepared and know the RIGHT REACTION.   Your child will learn how to handle unexpected and sometimes critical situations.  These classes will train them to overcome any reluctance to act in a emergency situation and to recognize and care for injuries or illnesses at the lay responder level.  Whether your child is going to be a babysitter, lifeguard, camp counselor or just a friend; these skills will serve him well.   These classes are strongly suggested for those interested in becoming an LJCC CIT or camp counselor.

Dates, times and fees will be added as they are scheduled.  Most are offered once during summer and once during the school year.

BABYSITTER'S TRAINING (American Red Cross Babysitter Certification)
Young adults ages 11 and up who want to become responsible, regular babysitters will benefit from the American Red Cross Babysitter's Training.  Successful completion of the course will result in being a CERTIFIED BABYSITTER.  This certification is encouraged for LJCC CIT's.  The course will involves hands-on activities, exciting videos, role-playing and lively discussions. Participants will learn basic child-care skills; how to handle discipline issues; care for common injuries and emergencies; how to communicate effectively with parents; how to find babysitting jobs and interview for them. You will lalso earn how to: perform first aid, handle bedtime issues, prepare simple meals, and to diaper, feed, and dress children.  Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED on the second day is 9 - 2:30.  Attendance the first day is $85; attendance both days is $140.

HEARTSAVER FIRST AID - CPR - AED (American Heart Association) 6 hours, Grade 7 and up
Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives.  Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies.  This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.

CPR (American Red Cross child and infant CPR Certification) 4.5 hours
This course will teach you to recognize the signals of cardiac arrest and a breathing emergency, explain the role of CPR in cardiac arrest situation, and how to perform CPR as well as help for choking victims. Grade 7 and up

FIRST AIDE/Adult CPR/AED (American Red Cross First Aid Certification and Adult, child and infant CPR Certification) 6.5 hours
This seminar will help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies.  The course teaches skills to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrives.  Grade 7 and up

SAFETY AROUND WATER (LJCC Aquatics Staff)
Pre-requisite: Intermediate to Advance swimming skill and at least 12 years old
As teenagers, your children will be around water (pools, lakes, beaches) more often and sometimes will be without adults.  Give him/her the confidence to handle unexpected situations.  Some of the topics your child will learn are: safe behavior around water, how to recognize water hazards, how to help a distressed swimmer without endangering himself, and basic rules to follow around any body of water, as well as strengthening their swimming skills.    This class is strongly suggested for those interested in becoming a LJCC CIT or camp counselor.  Age 12 and up

REMOTE AND WILDERNESS FIRST AIDE (American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Certification)  16 hours 
Pre-requisite: Adult CPR Certification and at least 13 years old
This seminar will provide individual a foundation of first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care while awaiting response from emergency medical services. This includes wilderness and remote environments, and urban disasters such as tornadoes, earthquakes, and hurricanes.
