Extracurricular Activities
Did you know that at the Cohn Early Childhood Learning Center your preschooler could participate in a wide variety of enrichment activities and never have to leave the safety of the LJCC Campus?
"My husband and I have definitely enjoyed the educational and extracurricular activities that the ECLC offers. We also appreciate the enthusiasm and compassion the teachers have. Our daughters enjoy the ECLC so much that they do not understand why they can not attend on Saturdays and Sundays." - Michelle Brown, parentHEAD OVER HEELS GYMNASTICS
If your preschooler loves to tumble, try Head Over Heels Gymnastics. The instructors bring the gym right here every Monday at 1pm.
SPANISH WITH SENORA SARAH
Early Childhood is the perfect time to introduce a foreign language to your child. Senora Sara uses songs, games and puppets to teach Spanish to your preschoolers. Try a class on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 1pm.
BACKSTAGE DANCE
If your little girl loves to dance, sign her up for ballet and tap classes right here at the ECLC. Every Tuesday afternoon from 1:15 until 2pm, your ballerina can don her tutu and learn basic ballet and tap with her friends. The semester ends with a recital and really sparkly costumes.

Got a little extra energy? Learn to harness it while practicing discipline and leadership skills and through martial arts with the Birmingham Academy of Martial Arts each Wednesday from 1:00-1:45.
TINY TOTS TENNIS
It's fun, it's physical, its Tennis for your four-year-old! Tuesday and Friday afternoons at 1pm, the LJCC's Coach Dale will work with your 4 or 5 year old in a small group learning the basics and having a great time!
PRESCHOOL SOCCER & BASKETBALL (Ages 3 1/2 - 4 1/2)
Let the LJCC involve your child in youth sports programs that will fill his or her extracurricular hours with positive activities and caring adult attention. Give your child the opportunity to learn new skills or improve those already learned. The LJCC provides a warm atmosphere with experienced coaches so your child can be part of a team experience that will positively impact his or her life. Coaches - often volunteers, including many parents - emphasize teamwork and cooperation. Our youth sports leagues build skills and build confidence, team spirit and a sense of accomplishment in your child.
PRESCHOOL SOCCER
Let the LJCC's caring and experienced staff introduce your youngster to the game of soccer. Emphasis is on basic soccer skills and fun and having a good time. This program is taught in a controlled environment at the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School's carpeted gym, on the J's campus.
This program is for children ages 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 years old and is offered in the Fall and Spring.
PRESCHOOL BASKETBALL (co-ed)
Let the LJCC's caring and experienced staff introduce your pre-schooler to the basic skills of basketball. Emphasis is on dribbling, passing and shooting skills and having fun. Your child will learn and develop in the LJCC gymnasium on our six foot basketball goals. Registration begins in October and the season begins in December.
SWIM LESSONS
Swimming is for life. Start your child learning early with group or private swim lessons. Our caring, well-qualified staff will help your child overcome his or her fear of the water and give him or her self confidence with improved swimming skills. We also offer pool parties for your child's special birthday or special occasion.
Swim lessons are taught in the Fall/Winter, Spring and Summer. Registration information can be found online at www.bhamjcc.org, in the monthly JTalk or by calling the fitness desk. All classes are taught by LJCC Lifeguards/Instructors and are scheduled to meet for 8 sessions. The LJCC has converted to American Red Cross (ARC) lesson structure.
