Ilanot Pre-Kindergarten

The Hebrew word Ilanot translates as young trees. Like saplings growing into mature trees, our Ilanot program encourages your child to be independent and grow in an environment designed to give your child a jumpstart on kindergarten with our creative and innovative program. Ilanot is a five day a week program and offers both half and full day classes. Ratios are 1:10 with a maximum of 20 students per class.

A typical day for Ilanot begins with free choice time. The classrooms are equipped with a wide variety of games, puzzles, manipulatives, props for pretend play and computer stations the children can explore during free choice time. Circle time follows free choice and is a time for the children to gather together as a whole to learn calendar and counting skills, share stories and learn fun facts about rainforests, sea animals, construction or any number of cool themes. A unique aspect of the Ilanot program are learning centers, special activities designed to practice math, reading readiness, language and problem solving through activities related to the theme of the week. Ilanot students are divided into small groups for learning centers, giving the teachers an opportunity to work closely with each child. Ilanot participates in several activities outside of the classroom such as music and movement with Kindermusic, gym and library here at the preschool and Kabbalat Shabbat at the N. E. Miles Jewish Day School. When the children return to the classroom they again divide into groups for peulote (poo-lote), Hebrew for exercises. During peulote, each group works with a teacher on an activity to help the children learn more about the theme they are studying. For instance, they may make banana chocolate chip muffins as they learn about foods from rainforests or they might observe an indoor planetarium and make telescopes as they learn about the solar system. Each group does one activity each day with a different teacher. By the end of the week they have participated in a variety of activities with each of the Ilanot teachers. After peulote the Ilanot classes can choose to go to the preschool playground or use the playground at the Day School before returning to the classroom for lunch.

A day in the Ilanot program is full of fun and learning in a nurturing environment designed to encourage independence and growth and to prepare our four year olds for kindergarten. If you are interested in enrolling your child in the new four-year old program, Ilanot, for the 2013-2014 school year, please contact the preschool office at 879-0411.
